410-411 : The Feeding Of The Multitude

410-411 : The Feeding Of The Multitude

THE people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran on foot from all cities, and were there before them.
And Jesus, when he arrived, saw many people, and was moved with compassion toward them,
because they were like sheep not having a shepherd.
And he began to teach them many things, Now later in the day his disciples came to him and said,
"This is a deserted place, and it is late. Send them away, so that they may go into the country round about,
and into the villages, and buy themselves bread.
For they have nothing to eat."

He answered and said to them, "Give them something to eat."
And they said to him, "Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give it to them to eat?"
"How many loaves do you have?" he answered, "Go and see."
One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, "
There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fishes.
But what are they among so many?"
Jesus said, "Make the men sit down."
Now there was much grass in the place, so the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
And Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to
those who were sitting. They did likewise with the fishes.

When they were filled, he said to his disciples, "Gather up the pieces that remain, so that nothing is lost."
Therefore, they' gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the leftovers of the five barley loaves,
which remained over and above to those who had eaten.
