416-417 : Jesus Instructs The Disciples

416-417 : Jesus Instructs The Disciples

ON the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, many people met them.
And a man in the crowd cried out, "Master, I beg you, look at my son, for he is my only child.
A spirit has taken him and at times he cries out suddenly and often he falls into the fire,
and often into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not cure him."
Then Jesus answered and said, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you?
How long shall I bear you? Bring him here to me."
And Jesus rebuked the demon, and he departed out of him, and the child was cured from that very hour.
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?"
And Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief.
For truly I say to you, if you have faith as small as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, 'Move hence to yonder place,' and it shall move, and nothing shall be impossible to you.
However, this kind goes out only by prayer and fasting."
They departed and passed through Galilee, and Jesus taught his disciples, saying,
"The Son of man shall bedelivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him,
and after he is killed, he shall rise the third day."
But they did not understand his words, and were afraid to ask him.

And he came to Capernaum, and in a house he asked them,
"What was it you disputed among yourselves on the way?"
 But they held their silence,
since on the way they had disputed among themselves about who should be the greatest.
Then Jesus sat down and called the twelve, and said to them,
"If any man desires to be first, he must be last of all, and servant of all."
And he took a child and placed him in the midst of them and,
taking him in his arms, he said,

"Whoever shall receive one such child in my name, receives me.And whoever receives me, receives not me, but him that sent me."
Then John said, "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him,
because he does not follow us."
But Jesus said,"Do not forbid him,
for there is no man that does a miracle in my name that can easily speak evil of me.
For he that is not against us is for us.
Whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ,
truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.
"And whoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me,
it is better for him that a millstone were hanged around his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
"And if your hand offends you, cut it off.
It is better for you to enter into life maimed than to have two hands to go into hell,
into the fire that shall never be put out.
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off.
It is better for you to enter lame into life than having two feet to be cast into hell.
And if your eye offends you, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye,
than having two eyes to be cast into hell.
"Moreover, if your brother trespasses against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone.

If he shall hear you, you have gained your brother. But if he will not hear you,

then take with you one or two witnesses, so that every word may be established.
And if he will not hear them, tell it to the church.
But if he refuses to hear the church, let him be like a Gentile and a tax-gatherer to you.
"I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they shall ask,
it shall be done for them by my Father who is in heaven.
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."
