130-131 : Water From The Rock
BUT it came to pass that when the children of Israel had left the wilderness of Sin,
and had pitched their camp in Rephidim, they found that there was no water for them to drink.
Therefore they complained to Moses and said: "Give us water that we may drink.
Why did you bring us out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?"
Moses cried to the Lord,
saying: "What shall I do to these people? They are almost ready to stone me."
God said: "Go on before the people, and take with you the elders of Israel.Take in your hand the rod
which you used to strike the river, and go. I will stand before you there upon the rock in Horeb. And
you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it so that the people may drink."
And this Moses did, while the elders of Israel looked on.
Moses gave to this place the name of Massah and Meribah , because of the quarrel of children of
Israel,and because they tested the Lord , saying, "Is the Lord with us, or not?"
