THE First day
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The earth was without form and empty.
Darkness was everywhere and in the darkness the spirit of God moved upon
the face of the deep.
God Said: "Let there be light," and there was light.
God saw that it was good and...
GOD planted a garden in the east, in Eden,
and there he put the man whom he had formed.
Out of the ground the Lord made trees of every kind to grow,
both those that are pleasant to the eye and those that are good for food.
In the middle of the garden he planted the tree of life,
MAN gave names to the cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field.
But for himself, man did not find a companion.
So God put man into a deep sleep as he slept. God took one of his ribs.
This rib the Lord God made into woman, and he brought her to man, who said:
THE most cunning of the beasts which the Lord had made was the serpent,
and the serpent said to the woman:
"Did God forbid you to eat the fruit of the trees of the garden?"
The woman said: "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden,
except the tree which is in the middle of the...
THE Lord God said to the serpent:
"Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle and above every beast of the field.
You shall crawl on your belly and eat dust all the days of your life.
I shall make the woman your enemy and her children the enemies of your children.
ADAM named his wife Eve, and she became the mother of all who lived.
She gave birth to Cain and said: "The Lord has given me a boy."
Then she gave birth to Abel.
Abel became a keeper of sheep and Cain became a tiller of the ground.

ONE day it came to pass that Cain brought some of his harvest as an offering to the Lord,
while Abel brought the fattest and choicest of his lambs.
The Lord was pleased with Abel and his offering but with Cain and his offering he was not content. Cain was angry and his face fell.
And God said to...
THE Lord saw that men had become very wicked
and that in their minds and their hearts there was only evil.
He regretted that he had made man on earth and in his heart he grieved very deeply.
And God said to Noah:"The end of all flesh is before me.
I will destroy all living things on earth...
NOAH had lived to a very great age when the flood of waters came upon the earth.
And God said to Noah:"Come into the ark, you and all who are with you.
Seven days from now, I will cause it to rain upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.
And every living thing I have made, I will destroy...
THE fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped
and the rain from heaven was restrained.
The waters receded for a hundred and fifty days
so that in the seven month on the seventeenth day of the month,
the ark rested on the mount of Ararat.
And the waters continued to...
AND God continued, saying: "Behold, I make my promise to you,
and to your children after you, and to every living creature that is with you,
and to every living beast of the earth.
To the birds and the cattle and all who come out of the ark,
I promise that never again will all flesh be cut...
AFTER God made the covenant with Noah,
Noah's descendants increased greatly and one generation succeeded another.
People at this time the earth over were of one language and one speech.
And as men journeyed eastwards, they entered a plain in the land of Shinar,
where they settled. They said...
