398-399 : Jesus Heals A possessed Man
THEN a man possessed with a demon, blind and dumb, was brought, and
Jesus healed him so that he both spoke and saw.
And all the people were amazed and said, "Is this not the Son of David?"
But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, "This fellow casts out demons only through Beelzebub the prince of the demons."
Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them:
"Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to ruin,
and every city or house divided against itself cannot stand.
If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself.
How then shall his kingdom stand? "If I cast out demons through Beelzebub,
through whom do your children cast them out? Therefore, they shall be your judges.
But if I cast out demons through the spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you.
Or else, how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods,
unless he first tie up the strong man?
Then he will plunder his house.
He that is not with me is against me, and he that does not gather with me scatters.
'"Therefore I say to you, all manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men,
but blasphemy against the
Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven men.
Whoever speaks a word against the Son of man shall be forgiven,
but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven,
neither in this world nor in the world to come.
Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account of in the day of judgment.
For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned."
Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees said, "Master, we wish to see a sign from you."
But he answered: "An evil and indulgent generation seeks a sign,
but there shall be no sign given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah:
As Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly,
so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."
