430 : The Tax Collector

430 : The Tax Collector

JESUS entered and passed through Jericho.
And there was a man named Zaccheus, the chief among the tax collectors,
who was rich and who tried to see Jesus, to learn who he was.
But he could not because of the crowd, for he was small in size.
So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way.
When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and saw him and said to him,
"Zaccheus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house."
And he made haste and came down, and received him joyfully.
When the people saw it, they all murmured, saying,
"He has gone to be a guest with a man that is a sinner."
Then Zaccheus stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor.
And if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I repay him fourfold."
And Jesus said to him, "This day salvation has come to this house,
inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
For the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."
