0441 : The Unworthy Guest
JESUS spoke to them again by a parable,
saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who prepared a marriage
for his son, and sent forth his servants to call them that were invited to the wedding.
And they would not come. "Again, he sent out other servants,saying, '
Tell them that are invited that I have prepared my dinner.
My oxen and my fat cattle are killed and all things are ready.
Tell them to come to the marriage.' "But they made light of it, and went their ways,
one to his farm, another to his merchandise.
And the rest took his servants and treated them spitefully, and slew them.
"When the king heard of this, he was angry. He sent forth his armies and destroyed those murderers, and burnt up their city. "Then he said to his servants,
'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
Go therefore into the highways, and as many as you shall find, invite them to the marriage.'
"So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together
as many as they found, both bad and good, and the wedding was furnished with guests.
"When the king came in to see the guests,
he saw a man among them who did not have on a wedding robe.
And he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding robe?'
"The man answered nothing. "Then the king said to his servants,
'Bind him hand and foot and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness.'
"There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
For many are called, but few are chosen.'
